We at Warsop Stebbing are always interested in success stories that demonstrate our bat's effectiveness. So here is a tale of a youngster who joined our brand at an early age - we hope his achievements will serve as an inspiration to all young cricketers.
Ian Salter started receiving coaching when he was 12 years old. While he admits his fielding excellence is his most enjoyable asset, as a colt he was a top bowler from club to county level. Oh and by the way, he still has a mean arm for those who have faced him with too many league wickets to mention.
However this particular success story concerns his decision to improve his batting. At the age of 15 he went to the Hussain Cricket school and was soon opening the batting for his Club and County. He played adult cricket from a u16.17.18 age group and has amassed thousands of runs in that period, improving every year. The last 3 years have seen him with over 2000 runs per season with over 50 average.
The 2008 season looks no worse for him with another 2000 easily within his reach and possibly a lot more (3000 is his personal targer, he says).
His most recent accolade came not from statistics or team representations but form the players and umpires at the RED BULL sixes competition held at the Surrey Oval this year. Whilst he helped get his side to the finals of the competition they failed at the final hurdle to win outright. Ian Salter was, however, voted as the Player of The Tournament and awarded with a trophy and a bat signed by current England captain Kevin Pieterson.
All you county and talent spotting coaches should keep your eye on Ian Salter.
